Nikola One: turning hydrogen trucks to a reality by 2020
The exploration of the hydrogen-powered vehicle is an ongoing affair, which has yet to become a mainstream reality. Nonetheless it could be sooner than we think.
The end goal of such a reality is to create vehicles with shorter refill times and longer ranges than electric vehicles.
The principal obstacle is the necessary infrastructures to support those vehicles. For reference, there is only 33 hydrogen stations in the entire United States.
"Nikola One will offer several unique specificities in this market, such as (...) a network of hydrogen stations across the U.S."
Nikola Motor Company decided to take on the challenge of building over 300 hydrogen stations so that its hydrogen-electric truck can travel across the country. Nikola One will offer several unique specificities in this market, such as up to 800 miles range on average with a single tank of hydrogen, a refueling time of just 15 minutes and a network of hydrogen stations across the US.
The startup plans to officially commercialise the trucks on the market by 2020 after the completion of the hydrogen stations' network late 2019.
