European control agency
Last September Alain Vidalies, the French State secretary for Transport, participated in a truck control operation at Orleans station in France. Vidalies wanted to observe the aledged fraudulant activity and take stock of the developing situation.
The State secretary explained that he will present the evidence gathered to the European Commision, in the hope that it will further his cause of creating a European control agency. The agency would standardise the actions taken towards european hauliers throughout Europe.
Fearing that the number of controlers may diminish, he reaffirmed his desire to maintain the, roughly, 500 controlers currently operating. Since 2013, the coordination with the other control teams has been reenforced in order to catch any suspected fraud, more will follow beginning of January with the end of the public consultation.
